Calcific Tendonitis

When calcium deposits form on the tendons of the shoulder, specifically on the rotator cuff, this is called calcific tendonitis. This condition is more common in individuals over age 40 and can cause intense shoulder pain as the tissues around the calcium deposit become inflamed. Degenerative calcific tendonitis is typically caused by wear and tear of the tendons as well as aging.
